Aquaculture Production

The data is a subset of the FAO Fisheries and Aquaculture Statistics (2014), it is the only repository for global fishery data, regularly collects and analyses fisheries statistics. The datasets here show aquaculture production levels between 1950 to 2014 and 1950-2017 for Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar. The definition of aquaculture is understood to mean the farming of aquatic organisms including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. Farming implies some form of intervention in the rearing process to enhance production, such as regular stocking, feeding and protection from predators. Farming also implies individual or corporate ownership of the stock being cultivated. For statistical purposes, aquatic organisms that are harvested by an individual or corporate body that has owned them throughout their rearing period contribute to aquaculture, while aquatic organisms that are exploitable by the public as a common property resource, with or without appropriate licenses, are the harvest of fisheries.

Positional Accuracy Values of aquaculture production are measured where data is available, it records null values as well as those that are half a unit below the units used, and for years of unknown values FAO estimate from available sources of information or calculation based on specific assumptions.
Logical Consistency There are no issues with logical consistency.
Completeness See here: http://www.fao.org/fishery/statistics/global-aquaculture-production/4/en The intention of the statistical compilation is to provide complete coverage of aquaculture production statistics throughout the world.

Attributes This database contains statistics on production volume and value by species, country or area, fishing area and culture aquatic environment. Aquaculture is understood to mean the farming of aquatic organisms including fish, molluscs, crustaceans and aquatic plants. For statistical purposes, aquatic organisms which are harvested by an individual of corporate body which has owned them throughout their rearing period contribute to aquaculture while aquatic organisms which are exploitable by public as a common property resource, with or without appropriate licences, are the harvest of fisheries Aquaculture production specifically refers to output from aquaculture activities, which are designated for final harvest for consumption. At this time, harvest for ornamental purposes is not included. See more here: http://www.fao.org/fishery/statistics/global-aquaculture-production/en
